Scooby in Melle
Today we acted on the invitation kindly extended to us by the "Sight Hound Friends of Melle" to participate in their very first Spring Meadow Festival with a Scooby stand. This event took place on the Melle Dog Training Centre grounds where a great many dog lovers and owners gathered under a surprisingly sunny sky to meet like-minded people, to browse through the stands, to let their dogs run free on the extensive grounds or demonstrate their canine skills in the agility competition, and to watch impressive shows put on by highly motivated bipeds and quadrupeds.
As always, when she is needed, Petra Schleimer was there to lend a helping hand. With her infectious enthusiasm, Petra easily swayed Nicole, a godmother to Gabriela, as well as Janine and Christian to pitch in as well. Nicole brought with her the complete stand, plus an assortment of very attractive merchandise, while Janine created beautiful collars and tassels. For his part, Christian set himself the task of designing equally marvellous galgo sculptures made of hand-crafted wood. Sabine put in an appearance too, which meant that we could all take turns to stroll around and enjoy the Festival sights at leisure, knowing that one of us would always be at the Scooby stand. And, I am overjoyed to report that our stand was indeed highly frequented! Many items changed hands during the course of the day, with the result that by evening we had accumulated no less than 524 euros! All material and merchandise were paid for by Nicole and her friends, meaning that 100% of our takings will benefit the animals in Spain. In addition, we were presented with 210 euros by the Festival organisers as our share of the raffle winnings. What a perfectly delightful day it was!
For me, though, it was equally delightful to see with what dedication and genuine pleasure other people readily supported Scooby's work. I would like to take this opportunity of thanking them all very much for their valuable help and also for making the day one of memorable enjoyment and harmony. My gratitude goes as well to all the visitors to our stand who, with their purchases, contributed to this terrific sum and who have promised to stay in touch with us and support Scooby in any way they can. Resounding positive feedback like this gives us such a boost and builds our confidence that future events will be just as successful.
Of course, our very special thanks are due to the members of the "Sight Hound Friends of Melle" for including us in their Festival. We all felt that it was an inspiring day and truly hope that we may look forward to being invited back again next year ;-))
