Peque, my second adopted cat
On Sunday, 27th September, while I was visiting the pet fair at Fuentepelayo, we received a call from the local police telling us that they had found a two months'-old kitten closed in a box and dumped in the middle of the road to be run over.
We left Fuentepelayo immediately, got hold of a cage and brought the kitten to my house. Peque, as I have named her, was very frightened and would not come out of the cage all afternoon. She watched my other cat, Mimos, moving around, but fear prevented her from leaving the safety of the cage. Finally, at nightfall, she ventured out to eat and relieve herself.
Mimos, who was abandoned this past summer, has accepted her very well, so I have adopted Peque and given her a forever home. Although Peque is settling in nicely, she is highly sensitive to noise. For instance, she panics and does not know where to hide even when I open or close a door. A curious observation is that I have never heard her meow. Well, as far as that is concerned, Mimos talks enough for both of them!
During the summer months, we rescued 15 cats in Cuellar. Some were taken in by Scooby, while a minority of them have since found a home. This past summer was sad for us in this respect – there were so many abandoned cats and kittens to be rescued. With the locals, we keep on promoting the idea of neutering all cats. In most cases, however, the stray cats we find are orphans, because their mothers have been hit by cars.
With greetings from Scooby
Carolina
